There are some things that you've seen,
There are some things that you know.
But, what will stay with you for the long haul,
I sincerely don't know..
I see you look all around,
Wondering what the hell is going on.
Why is there a tube down your throat,
Where has your special lady gone..
Do you want to cry, little boy,
Do you want me to call out for her.
Is there something you want to say,
I wish I knew, so I could tell her..
Smile at me if you can,
Or not, if you please.
Just don't look at me with those big, brown eyes,
Please..
'Cos I know that you've fought,
The hardest battles of life too soon.
I hope that life is easy for you,
But, to hope that I am probably a fool..
There will be a scar on your heart,
And a gash on your throat.
And people may be mean,
Enough to pull your leg or rock your boat..
But you are a rock star
That I know.
'Cos you clung on,
Where so many won't..
And some day when the sun is brighter,
I hope you come back to see a wrinkled, old me.
And maybe smile at me with those big, brown eyes,
Please..
To- A little boy in my ward. Get well soon, honey. We love you!
